Some Reflections on Reference in the Teaching of French as a Foreign Language Context

Abstract Grammatical and lexical cohesion are necessary conditions to guarantee a text’s coherence (Halliday Hasan 1976). is classified into four types of relation: reference, conjunction, substitution, ellipsis. This study aims investigate the use cohesive device reference in written discourse produced by users/learners French as foreign language, explore kind references they prefer highlight difficulties come across. Our based on learner corpus composed productions Greek-speaking who participated National Foreign Language Exam System (Κρατικό Πιστοποιητικό Γλωσσομάθειας, ΚΠΓ). We used sample texts candidates examination willing be certified at levels B (Independent user) C (Proficient language proficiency according 6-level scale Common European Framework Reference for Languages (Council Europe 2001).
